Business is running at full steam over here. Our editors have been hard at work as our video production continues to expand. Much of our current work requires more preproduction and planning time than we’ve done in the past. And as our business grows, we’ve added a few new faces to the crew (don’t worry – we’ll be making introductions soon).
Needless to say, we’ve been b-u-s-y.
So busy in fact, that a few months ago we looked around the studio and thought “Where are we?! Did we step back in time? Is it 1995?” It’s true - we hadn’t made renovations in the studio for over TWENTY years. (Hello, pastel checkerboard floor!) It was like the moment when you get home after a long day, look in the mirror and notice that you have a coffee stain on the front of your shirt and a piece of spinach stuck in your teeth. WHERE HAVE ALL THE MIRRORS BEEN HIDING?! With the help of our friends down the street at Blue Sky Contractors, we decided it was time to update our image at IMAGE.
When we started brainstorming ideas for the renovation, we quickly learned that the once trendy open-office concept has been taking a lot of heat for destroying the workplace. Sure, the huge undivided rooms make for a cool laid-back work environment, but research shows that when the walls come down, so do job satisfaction and productivity levels. Blame it on the constant noise, visual distractions, a lack of privacy, and germ-spreading. What seems to be working best is a hybrid of open and closed workspaces. A healthy mix of private places to retreat, and fun open spaces to collaborate and congregate. A place that meets the needs of both introverts and extroverts.
Armed with this new knowledge, we got to work! We added a conference room, two additional editing bays (totaling 6), a concrete and iron staircase leading to a mezzanine with a lounge area, quiet executive offices, and a finishing room for custom printing, matting, and framing. And to top it all off, we gave our kitchen and front office areas drastic makeovers with dark wood flooring, a fresh coat of paint, and updated furniture.
Despite the temporary construction chaos and layers of dust, our team was genuinely excited and supportive about the updates. We are passionate about Image Studios being an exciting, innovative place for our people to work. A place that encourages creativity, productivity, and just plain fun. Based on the new buzz of excitement and energy, I think we can safely say “Mission Accomplished”.
